Your guess is as good as anyone else's, Boss, until some more information is available.

In my world, a bus coupler doesn't have a switch. Or power. Or any active components.

Hi Guest ,

Bus coupler is normally used as stand by system for immediate changeover in case of failure of one of the incoming feeders. In case if two or more incomers are feeding supply to either side of the bus coupler ,the incomer and outgoing feeders are kept normally on and the bus coupler breaker remain switched off and the load is fed directly to the outgoing feeders. In case of failure of any incomer the faulty incomer is switched off and bus coupler is switched on to provide power to all the the outgoing feeders. This also help in case of planned maintenance shutdown of either incoming feeders with out effecting power outage to the load centers.
