Outlook Express - I need a larger 'Move' Window - How please

11/15/2006 9:51 AM

Re Outlook Express.

When I 'move' emails to another folder I right-click on the chosen email and when the 'move' window opens, I choose the folder by highlighting it, then I left-click on OK. This works well and I have no problem in the procedure at all.

What is annoying is that the 'move' window is too small and thus it needs a lot of mouse movements to scroll up and down to find the files. There is no facility to inrease the size of the window by 'dragging' - so how can I make it larger - down especially - and permanently.

The same thing applies to 'copy'.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I use drag'n'drop for these operations.

  1. Select the folder containing the file to be moved or copied.
  2. To move the file, put cursor over the file, then press and hold the left mouse button.
  3. Drag over to your destination folder in the folders pane, and release the mouse button.
  4. Done!

To copy rather than moving, do the same operations, but hold down the CTRL key from step 2 until you release the mouse button.

BWT this also works for moving or copying files in Wndows Explorer. You can also do multiple files at the same time, by highlighting all the ones to be moved/copied before step 2.

JohnDG is right. 'Drag n Drop' should work in most cases EXCEPT if you wanted to move email messages / files to different folders. That is, if you are 'organizing' your e-mail messages / files into many different folders (based on some criteria), then 'Drag & Drop' will be slightly tedious (it depends on how many messages / files you have to move).

I use the 'Rule' method to organize messages. This works only in Outlook Express and not in WIndows Explorer!.

You create certain rules based on some criteria and you ask OE to move them to certain folders if the criteria is met for a message. You can look at OE Help on 'Message Rules'. This will be a quicker way to organize messages into different folders. And it can be applied to all incoming e-mails, so that, your mails go to specific folders when they arrive at your mail box.
