I am considering bidding the Synrad 125w CO2 lasers currently on ebay. Can an engraver built for 50w use handle the extra speed and power offered by a 125w laser? TIA, Bill
Not familiar with your engraver since you didn't name it, but:
Does it fit? Most of these go into cabinets.
Is the new one, longer, heavier, bigger? Might effect the controllability.
Can you adjust power on your current system?
Can you adjust power on the new system?
Biggest concern with doubling the power is that if you cannot control power or speed, then it will simply track at the same speed with 2.5 times the power and you will burn through most material you are used to.

I also know nothing about your engraver, but I have used the Synrad 125 W laser for cutting thin metalic foils. In case you aren't aware, that laser requires pressurized water cooling (whereas the 50W Synrad is air cooled), so make sure the laser comes with the required chiller, or you will have to buy one separately. The output of the 125 can be varied to well below 50 W, so it definitely will work. The question is whether it will be worth the price...
Both the 50 and 125 can connect to the same optics, directly or indirectly.
