Circles and Radii - Converting 2D to 3D

04/07/2009 8:30 AM

Help in converting a 2d drawing to a 3d drawing. How to fit a radii in the outside of a circle.

I have a cam track cut into the outside of a drum. At a certain degree around the outside I begin a lift in the cam. it stays at that lift then falls after a total of 47 degrees. The problem is I know the degrees, the appx. angle of lift, the center (top of lift) and a approx. radius of the start, top of lift, and end. I drew this as a 2d drawing and it works out fine. However when I try to convert to 3D or we program in the points in the Mazak it doesn't work out. I need help as my job depends on this. I can send a dwg. if necessary.

I havnt made sense of your description. Are you going to draw a 3D model from 2D blueprint, or imput date of 2d to cnc in order to process parts?

what project are you using in your 2D drawing? I think you d better post out your picture here. if your pic is dwg file, [you seem to use autocad or some relative software]. try to poste.in jpg format

The Mazak is obviously a machine tool. If programming in the points doesn't work, there must be something going wrong in the translation process. Maybe a consultation with the machine's manufacturer could help.

When a 2D drawing won't convert to 3D, a common problem is with intersections that don't actually intersect. If the lines extend past one another or end short, the 3D program cannot make a solid model.

Zoom in close to the intersections and use a 0 radius fillet to join them and try again.

It was a intersection problem. Thank you all that helped out. Now I just need to get a copy of solidworks so I only draw in 3d!!!
