Each is illuminated by the Sun, and by a small extent by light reflected from the other.
'The Sun' is always a pretty good guess when asking where illumination comes from, although CR4 is also a good source.

Than, the only possibility is my misunderstanding.
I thought that the question is if the Earth is seen, from the Moon, as the Moon is seen from the Earth (like a lantern, making possible strolls on sand, hand in hand...oh, what memories...hm, sorry, I was day dreaming). I don't know if anybody would walk under the Earth light (what a beautiful Martian song) but I think the strait answer to that curious gentleman was: yes the Earth is seen from the Moon like the Moon is seen from the Earth during the dark nights (because would be dark, without Moon, isn't it?)
