I have a Heathkit TIG Welder that is over 40 years old. It recently quit working and I can't find the Manual or Schematic for it. Anyone familiar with this kit?????

There are a number of manual sellers on Ebay, and they will sell you a manual copy from their files for a fee if you have the model number and if they have the manual.

That is an old unit!!

I do not know the welder but suspect from its age to have basic components

Can you be specific what has stopped the main power?, does it have HF is this working, is it AC/DC ?

Did any smoke escape , have you checked obvious cable connections ,fuse etc?

More info please.

Garth, Thanks for the comeback. Yes I checked fuses... ok. The only thing I can find that looks like it may have gotten hot, is a 2" wide aluminum film wrapped up in a treated paper. Without tearing into it, I can't tell what it does. Without a manual, I haven't a clue what the check method is for it or any of the other components other than switches and a rheostat, which incidentally check out ok. There is a model number on the Hi Frequency unit...LG50323. I also have a Model number on the Powere Kraft DC Converter... TTZ5944. Does that help

Hello, The model No's are to far back in history for me.

The coil you are looking at is the HF transfer transformer, I suspect from your description it could have some shorted turns and or bad connections. that is if it looks like it is burnt however this is not usually a problem discoloration could be old age and brown varnish.

You must identify to me,

1/ Do you have any welding power either AC or DC, possibly your machine does not have DC ie: is only an AC machine yes or no?

2/ Do you have any HF sparking can you switch this function on or off yes or no?

3/ are all of the above dead yes or no?

4/ Can you hear any humming from the machine, yes or no.?

Hi Garth,

I think my goose is cooked. I got my welder back from my "genius" son-in-law this weekend. He took it all apart, I assume to test elements, and hasn't put it back together in months after repeated requests. It isn't possible for me to get any info from him, because he and my daughter just split up. I had hoped to find someone who had manuals that could be copied, so I could keep on working to get it back in working condition. I'm supposed to be getting ready to move so I guess I'll have to wait until I get settled into my new digs to do any more. I'm running out of time. I think I will go to the Library for a couple of hours next week after I get back from a trip to our new home site to do some site work. Thanks for trying

Hi,

Sorry I cant help I could pretty well draw the circuit for you but would not be exact connection wise and I would not like for you to have an accident.

The Library technical archives would be a good starting point also there are many guys selling manuals on Ebay you might contact them.

Good luck, check back with me if I can help also a picture is worth a thousand words.
