POS? what type? One machine or an integrated inventory control/POS system. There are thousands of small makers and many large ones

It depends on what you want to do, but for my business I need to be in the feild taking CCs, and I have found nothing better than the Nurit 8000. It is wireless and battery powered, and as long as you get a signal you are good. Immediate sales, no waiting, no risk of a bad card. I also have a Nurit in my store hooked to the phone line, and electric, and it does the same. They are the name I was told when I was starting out, and I reccommend them to everyone.

As suggested already, part of the answer depends on what your specific needs are.

My answer would be a bit biased (), as our Pastor's wife works for Micros {< click link}.

As with most product manufacturers, there will likely be more than ONE claiming to be "the market leader"...(!) One may lead in one geographical locale, while another holds the lead elsewhere.

Best wishes in your quest~

POS, Point Of Sale

I always thought it meant Piece Of S@#T. Or at least in my business I used to say remove and replace that POS relay with a good one.

Always meant that to me too, and being in the retail trade, the first time someone told me I needed a POS I thought they were trying to tell me something!! Don't we have too many acronyms in the world today? I think it would be interesting for someone to put together legitimate acronyms that are used, then find the alternative ones and see just how warped of a sentence you could come up with.

Citadel POS is pretty much up in the ranks. You might want to look them up.

According to the 2009 Database of Retail Technology, IBM has the most market share in the Retail industry. IBM has 37% of the POS Hardware Apparel Industry. 67% of the Retail Department Industry, and 60% of the Discount Retail Industry. The only competitor that is even close to a similar market share for any of these categories is NCR. However, in the apparel market, the "other" category is the next closest at 23%. I think the stats say it all.
