Generally car bumpers made today are of Plastic ( PP ). I have read that process of thermoforming is far economical as compared to injection molding. Too 'A' class surface finish is excellent with thermoforming.Even though why injecton molding is preferred for bumper manufacturing? plz provide some material if available with you.

Thanks in Advance

I worked at a bumper manufacturer in the mid 90's while I was in college. The video explains very well the process for trucks. Car bumpers in United States are almost completely colored to match the body of the vehicle. The top layer you normally see is a pliable tough injection molded thermoplastic cover that is fitted over the internal 2 part system. Internally the bumper consists of a energy absorbing medium usually formed structural foam. The foam fills the shape of the bumper and creates the first energy absorbing layer of crash protection. The internal metal bumper is made from a large flat sheet that is stamped with all the mounting holes and weight reducing cutouts and roll-formed into a long square tube. The tube is curved and cut to match the dimensions of the vehicle. The roll-forming line I worked on made a bumper every 7 seconds.
