Printed Circuit Boards...new business opportunities?

11/17/2006 12:05 PM

This may be just a shot in the dark, but I was hoping to see if there was a way to touch base with others in my position...

I was hoping to learn, from others' experience, how the PCB design, purchasing, and manufacturing world worked; at least from the inside.

I work for a small design firm and am attempting to acquire new business; as much of the sales business stems from 'who you know', I'd like to get to know individuals who may be able to help me.

Any advice, comments, inquiries, etc. will be welcomed...

Thanks...

board making is a mature business. Volume production is dominated by large capital intensive production lines. Prototype production is turnaround based with people offering 24 hour Fedex turnarounds from e-mailed files for multilayer boards...at a cost of course.

I suggest you get work with one of these companies to test the water.

Look in the "circuit cellar" magazine for an idea of the prototype makers

Well, assuming you're not an international business I would suggest telling us where in the world you are might be a good first step.
