Stimulus Grants: What's Available and What are the Deadlines?

04/18/2009 4:40 PM

I came across this breakdown of the Federal Stimulus (Link) and it got me wondering...are CR4 members leaving stimulus money on the table because we aren't aware of what we qualify for? I'm hoping that if we pool our knowledge we might get a fundamental understanding of what's available.

I'm personally in a group applying for an NIH Challenge Grant (Link) but I was wondering what else I should be applying for. It's rare that government funding agencies have:

1. A lot of Money
2. A short time to issue it through grants

So is there any grants out there for Engineers, or regular people who work a nine to five and want to make their house more energy efficient or whatever? How can we get our piece of the stimulus pie?

PS. It is not my goal to make this a political discussion. Lets please just try together to break down what's in the stimulus for us, the CR4 community. If you are opposed to the stimulus, I respect that opinion, just please start your own post on it and leave this one alone.

There is already a tax deduction for improvements on your house to make it energy efficient.

I would also look on the Small Business Administration's Web site. See if there are any local organizations and FED partnerships that are providing grants for a particular project in your area.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I don't own a house, but I'm sure there are many who come to CR4 who could use that information.
