Mercedes electric seat problem

04/20/2009 6:04 PM

1992 300E. My mechanic installs a new water pump and battery is disconnected. Mechanic moves drives seat back to move car and now electric seat won't move forward, backward, no tilt, nothing works...... All fuses good. passenger side works fine..... I changed switches from passenger door to drivers door, still nothing.

Seems odd to me that all the seats functions (more than 1 motor) would stop at the same time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Don

Is there a master harness that came unplugged from the underside of the seat? Have you tried to (semi- forcefully) jar the seat to see if the mechanic may have not properly moved the seat back, causing binding/jamming of some components?

Sounds to me like something got unplugged on accident. You have 12V to the switches? do you have 12V to the motors? Process of elimination to solve your electrical problem.

Time to take out the multimeter and start probing. Ground? 12V? Ground? 12V?

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the reply. All good answers and suggestions. I'll start with the meter and see what is going on.

Check the seat motor ground. Also, see if you are getting power out of the switches.

Contact the Merc dealer and look in the handbook. Probably an anti theft thing like with radio.

If unplugged for greater than "x" minutes must be reset by owner code.

is there a multiple driver memory system for the seats?

if so, it may need to be relearned

Sounds like it needs "re-setting", may I suggest a call to Mercedes may clear that up.

Also, you might just try removing the earth battery connection overnight, and connect it the next morning "WITHOUT CAUSING SPARKING", as these sparks can drive microprocessors wild.....make sure you know your radio code.....
