Skirt & Leg Mounted tank?

04/21/2009 1:33 PM

If the tank is supported by skirt & instead of RCC foundation the whole assembly ( ie tank with skirt) is supported on pipe legs.

How to design legs?

& how to design Skirt?

Is there any method to design this support asembly?

The ultimate resource should be your structural/building code, whether or not it is AISC and ASCE; depends on your jurisdictional requirement.

Any combination of the following books can guide you through some structural design:

  • "Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment" by Jawad and Farr;
  • "Mechanical Design of Process Sytems - Vol 1" by Escoe;
  • "Design of Process Equipment - Selected Topics" by Mahajan
  • Pressure vessel design Handbook - By H. Bednar
  • Process Equipment Design - Vessel Design - By Brownell & Young
  • Pressure Vessel Design Manual - D. R. Moss
  • Pressure Vessel Design - By Megyesy

Dear XMech,

You are derived a very interesting group of design handbooks, and I have some of them. But I still need a copy of "Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment" by Jawad and Farr, is it possible to send me a soft copy of that handbook?
