Dear Azeem

You have to follow these steps respectively:

1-work as a sales represntative,to understand the market where you live.(not more than 4 years)

2-work in the field of maintenance and repair(6-8years according to the factory size)

3-work in manufacturing factory(5-7 years)

4-work in engineering office as a designer for machine and production lines

5-when the white hair attacks your head, you will work as a consultant engineer the rest of your life

DO NOT forget to study catalouges, books and have training courses in the field of mech.engineering

Good luck

Dear Azeem

I think you have already start answer for you question, you start the first and most essential step to be a good engineer. Ask and ask and ask more and struggle to find answers for your questions. Why this machine designed like that? How power of that machine calculated? What mechanics did to repair that machine, he removed some parts and replaced by new one, but why? How he know defect parts while it's looked good. Many and many questions you have to ask. You are a good engineer whenever you ask and looking for answer.

Here are some advices to find answer for you questions.

1) You have to gain some mechanical hand skill, wear a uniform and start to work by your hand, don't blush to ask even a small mechanic, be sure you will find some thing new in his work

2) Don't miss your theoretical background; it's the essential different between engineer and mechanic. Always return to your books to explain theoretical illustrations for technical topics you may face.

3) Technical manuals for equipment and machines is an excellent source to know every thing about your machine.

4) English language is too important it's the way to know, read and understand manuals.

5) Try to buildup a good relationship with all peoples in your working site.

6) Technical discussion with other engineers in your field is too useful.

7) You should feel happiness when you go for your dear machines every morning.

8) Machines not talking but it have its own language; you have to use your eyes, ears, nose and your hands to understand what it said.

9) Your certificate is only a key to know, you will discover different topics which you didn't study in your college, but you have basics to read and understand.

10) Mistakes not means fail ,it means mare experience

You will feel your importance; you will trust yourself whenever you know more.

Finally you will be a good mechanical engineer

Good luck

The first thing you will need to learn is how to write in complete sentences, capitalize the correct words and work on proper sentence structure. Also check you spelling.

Considering that he may not be so "lucky" as you to have English as his native language, that comment was unnecessary. I can only assume that your command of his language is equally as competent as his of English.

These stupid comments always infuriate me. Waste of time and space.

I will give you my 2 cents worth of advice;

1) focus on improving your written and verbal communication skills. Master English as best you can. A lot of manuals / instructions are in English, so that's essential

2) build up your self confidence. A lot of us Engineers tend to be introverted, and that may inhibit future career opportunities. How do you build self confidence? Improve your technical leadership. That means a lot of hard work on the factory floor and reading a lot on related topics after work. There must come a point where your subordinates invariably come to you for advice and guidance, and you can provide that effectively

3) build up your bearing. You will be asked to present from time to time to top management ( during their visits to plants, etc), so create a very positive impact on them. How do you do this, you may ask. Polish up on presentation skills. If you work hard on (2) above, your presentations will be substantial and relevent, so you need to be able to communicate your message effectively and confidently.

You will note I placed a lot of emphasis on "soft' skills. Unfortunately, in the world we live in, that's essential.

Good luck

Here is my formula for being the best design engineer I could possibly be:

1. Observe the product closely

2. Describe clearly in your mind what you want to design.

3. Form a hypothesis of the product vs. design.

4. Test the hypothesis of the product vs. design.

5. Retest the hypothesis of the product vs. design.

6. Conclude

7. Design

8. Build

9. Modify

10. Mass produce
