Electrical Switchboard Safety Mats

Do you have any requirements for when Elecrical Switchboard Safetry Mats are required from NFPA70E,OSHA or NEC

They are a good idea. We used to have them in larger Class III switch gear and substations where we were walking around exposed buss. But I have never seen them required by code just good sense.

Hi,

You do have to have compliant safety matting in a swichroom environment. Any old bit of carpet underlay or ground sheet definitely won't do.

BS921/1976 is the standard for such items in the UK. The matting is rated for the switchroom voltage. Therefore in a 650VAC installation it may be 9mm with a certified test voltage of 15000 volts.

Check out www.technixrubber.com for an example there others out there also.

Careful as you go! management is increasingly exposed to litigation and if found culpable can pay a high price.
