Yes. You'll need a signal converter so that your computer can display on a TV set instead of a monitor. Alternately, you could use screen grabs of you PowerPoint presentation to compile a series of digital still images that will later be burnt as a standard VCD or DVD that can be played back on a normal DVD player.

Some new and not so new TV's have a VGA connection on their back that will allow a computer/laptop to connect to a TV just by connecting a typical VGA cable between the two.

Other alternative (as already mentioned) is to use a DVD player to play a VCD or DVD.

You will need to compile as a slide show with a program such as NERO or even use the HP bundled software which should have the tools there to compile a VCD/DVD ready to be viewed by a DVD player.

I say that as unless your DVD player you use to watch movies with can read the PowerPoint file, the DVDplayer may not recognise the PowerPoint extension. If that happens and no other choices are available, hook up your computer to the TV using the VGA cable attached to your computer.

...I use my computer attached to a TV for home entertainment, watching movies, litening to music and viewing photos and home movies. Hooking up an amplifier to my PC is dirt easy and a big blast.

Save $$$ on accessories, adapters, DVD players etc etc...use your home PC and marry it to a TV...and feel the love.

I believe the easiest way to accomplish being able to view your photos on TV is to just create a data CD on your computer with your photos as JPG files, close or finalize the CD, play the CD in your DVD player and I believe your DVD play should automatically provide you with some sort of slide show. Everytime I've done this in the past, it has workded for me.

All good and accurate answers (except one!), but did you understand fully the method(s) or do you need more details?

I use Picasa 3 which I downloaded from google for free. I can scan pictures and transfer pictures from my camera onto my hard drive and Picasa keeps them organized. I can create slide shows and movies with Picasa. I can post the movies I create to YouTube with one button. The video editing is basic but is fine for what I use it for. I can also upload the albums or folders to the web directly from Picasa. You can create a "gift cd" and watch the pictures on your DVD player if it is a newer DVD and permits this which mine does. You can open the cd on your computer and look at the pictures with your favorite viewing software. You can also transfer the pictures to another computer. I would highly recommend checking out Picasa from Google.

Windows software has a program called Windows Movie Maker which can be used to create a VCD disk as well as other types of movie files. I have used this for years and even though I have tried using other programs including iMovie on the Mac, I keep coming back to Movie Maker for quick edits and splices of small videos. I would recommend this free program from Microsoft for beginning video creators.

hi roadapple,

your end-goal is to be able to view your scanned photo files from your TV using some form of "presentation" software (you mentioned PP).

let me break down your question into manageable bits so you can implement it by steps, as well.

1. scan your pictures with a resolution of 300dpi, jpg format to obtain good visual quality, and file them into a single folder in your PC, naming it, for example as "myScannedPix".

2. open your folder, select all the pictures, right-click on any one of them, and select "Preview". by default (if you've not changed the file association for .jpg) this will open up Windows Photo Gallery (WPG).

3. after WPG opens up, you will see thumbnails of your pics in the main window of the application. .

instead of PP, you can use a built-in software called "Windows Movie Maker" (WMM) where you can import your picture files, add titles, captions, music and transition effects to your "movie". you can then "publish" it onto your CD or DVD disc. to activate "Windows Movie Maker" from within WPG, click on the menu "Make a Movie". this will activate WMM.

2. it is from this application that you can now do the stuff you want. transitions, effects, music, etc. drag the thumbnails of those pics that you want to be part of your movie into the "film strips" at the bottom of the WMM window. WMM is more appropriate for your project than PP (since PP is not recognized by video players). if you've got a great voice, you can even record your own voiceover, and let it play with your photos. *SAVE* your work, and playback to review it. if you're happy with everything, click on "Publish Movie". this will enable you to either save the movie in the hard disk, or burn it onto your CD or DVD. but since it's supposed to go to the TV, burn the project onto your CD or DVD, finish the disc, and load it onto your DVD or CD player that is attached to your TV, and ENJOY!!!

HTH!

bwire, being a non-native English speaker, I can't quickly catch some slang and expressions. but your line sounds kind. does it mean, roughly, "give me more of such stuff?"

thanks for the GA, too!

Yes is a compliment to your manner of conveying the subject in a way non-technical folks may easily comprehend

If you meant DVD player, it may be that your DVD does not recognise and play Video CDs. So burn a DVD instead.....

Please explain fully as most CD players can only play music CDs, sometimes MP3 music CDs, but almost never Video CDs....read the manual.
