Alternative Degreasing Substance or Process

11/21/2006 4:55 PM

Hi,

I am looking for an alternative degreasing substance, we are currently using Trichloroethylene. Or any other cost effective way for removing oil from pressed parts.

Thanks

What system of cleaning are you using? Tank, spray or cleaning by hand?

We are using the tank system. (ie. Immersion & Vapour degreasing) The tank has 3 compartments:

  1. Liquor compartment : Heated Tricho- Components are submerged fully into the boiling liquid and moved up and down to rinse
  2. Ultrasonic compartment : Non Heated Tricho generate impulses that remove burrs and other small metal particles from the product
  3. Vapour compartment :

Hi ,

I hope the degreasing process is not so critical , if so and if it is for just removing the oil means then you can go in for a alkali system which can do the same function and is also ecofriendly.

If you are intersted then i can suggest the brand and also the supplier.

Regards

Shesh

We have just got rid of our trike tank and gone over to evaporative oils. We have found a few limitations to this, but putting the parts through a powder coating wash and drying oven removes the oil completely.

depending on the application, we had very good degreasing results with waterbased cleaners based on citrus oils.

those are not (or at least less ) harmful to both people and the environment, smell good, and even work out cheaper than your triclor etc.

T.A.C.T.-O Time, Agitation, Chemistry, temperature-oil in emulsion of cleaner these are the variables to washing. Lower one, you must raise the others. If you want your cleaner to do all the work, it must be aggressive. you also need to get the oil out of the cleaner as fast as it is introduced. We use www.suparator.com. Consider high pressure spray and nuetral cleaners.

Try 3M Novec HFE-72DE. It has no flash point. It has no ozone depleting potential. It is not considered a HAP. All components are listed as acceptable without restrictions under the EPA' SNAP program. It is resistant to thermal breakdown and hydrolysis.

Hi My name is Chris Hall and I am the National Manager for CBG Technologies based in Cleveland. Many of our customers have made the switch to 3M Novec 7100 or 72DE. depending on your process. though this carries a hefty price tag intitially, our customers purchase Novec and our system. we are an OEM for on site recycling equipment and our system recycle NOvec very easily. If you would like to have further discussion, my door is open. feel free to contact me 8--941-9484 x223

Novec is expensive but it works very well and is not nearly as harmful as Trichlor.
