Mail Equivalent of Do Not Call List - Get Green!

05/04/2009 9:56 AM

Cleaning out the junk mail ran into this handy tidbit on the back, back page of yet another offer: Following information is for U.S. companies, some equivalent may be available in your locale;

verbatim

PRESCREEN & OPT-OUT NOTICE

This "prescreened" offer of credit is based on information in your credit report indicating that you meet certain criteria. This offer is not guaranteed if you do not meet our criteria. If you do not want to receive prescreened offers of credit for this and other companies, call the consumer reporting agencies toll free,
1-800-5-OPT-OUT (1-800-567-8688);

or write them individually at

Experian Target Marketing
P.O. Box 919
701 Experian Parkway B2
Allen, TX 75013

Equifax Options
P.O. Box 740123
Atlanta, GA 30374-0123

Trans Union Corporation
Attn: Marketing Opt Out
P.O. Box 505
Woodlyn, PA 19094-0505

Don't bother replying to them . It's just another form of spam . Reply to them, and get prepared to be bombarded with endless junk mail from all their clients .

Get a stamp that says return to sender and send them back.

Or just send the junk mail pre-paid pre-addressed return envelope back empty.

Hello ed, I am not exactly sure what you are trying to say as I am on a bad day and even after reading it for ten times, I still do not know what you mean for sure. Just to say, that if you are referring to an 'opt out' scheme, the UK Post Office and telephone has a similar thing. It stops any advertising mail or, in the case of the telephone, any 'cold calling'. Although I am a private individual I have been snowed under with mail shots in the past. And people getting my name from the computer were mostly to blame. I think it should be illegal to buy and sell anyones details, but in the UK it is an everyday occurrence. Even local authorities do it and it makes me so mad! Take care..........................

Credit card companies pull their targets (people who match their criteria) directly from the credit reporting databases.

In the US, these are the credit reporting agencies departments to "opt out" of these solicitations.

Just trying to trim your junk mail load a bit.

If ya think about the cost of the pre-paid postage of their envelopes. Ya may be can see why I open all of them and stack the letters for two weeks then I stuff ones envelope with another's junk and send it back
