Aircraft Main Landing Gear

05/06/2009 1:32 AM

Dear Mechanical or aircraft engineer, I tried to do FEA on the main landing gear during landing. Before that I have to know the force exerted on the comonents as an input. I try to find the answer but not so sure. In some book I have read, they only mention about kinetic energy (1/2mv2). I believed we have to consider any other factors such as drag, tyre, e.t.c..

Thank you

You haven't come across a simple formula, because it is not a simple issue - it depends on many factors - most importantly

  • landing "style" - double point, triple point, tail down, and the dreaded bounce landing
  • shock/strut system

You may find some guidance in the military documents, starting here:

http://assist.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/basic_profile.cfm?ident_number=35201

and then searching referenced docs.
