What does the manufacturer's maintenance manual say on the topic?

It is the same problem that we get every-time someone ask for help. Information and data's are not given correctly.

You are installation a 250KVAR capacitor bank and it fail.......

You should provide more information like your intake voltage, your capacitor rated voltage, your capacitor connection type star or delta connection, you capacitor is for low voltage or medium voltage and so on...

We only able to study the problem if all these information is given. As an Electrical Engineer, you should known better how to provide better information for case study.

Could be a failed (or partially failed) capacitor in one of the capacitor strings that are being switched in and out (hence only sometimes indicates a fault).

Check all the capacitors and consult your capacitor bank manual and supplier's website for more information.
