Electric Cabling Works

05/09/2009 4:49 AM

I'm supposedly to install 9 nos submersible pump with 2.5(mm) + 1 core x 1.5mm(earthing) instead I used 6mm + 1core x 4mm(earthing). For your info, this pump will be run in syncronize pattern-for water fountain use. Will there be any effect on the syncronizing or loss of power. Kindly assist

I believe its 2.5 Sq mm and not 2.5 (mm) and the same goes for the earthing too.

Considering these submersible pumps to be 3 phase ( Or even single phase ), there shouldnt be any effect on the synchronizing or Loss of power for the increase in cable size from 2.5 Sqmm to 6 Sqmm. Its just that you have paid extra on the cable cost, which is uneconomical .

The voltage drop in the cable will be much lower.

The installed cable is "oversized".

Having oversized wire will not produce a noticeable effect on your synchronization. (For the nit pickers out there, I do believe an oscilloscope and test circuit can be configured to show the tiny timing difference that will occur. This delta will be overwhelmed by the many uncertainties of a real world system.) You will also have a small improvement in power loss from running oversized cable. My only concern, is that the heavier cable's insulation meets the conditions encountered.
