Hi, Joint Efficiency is parameter for manufacture to design the pressure vessel due to processing of welding which can define based on type of joint, such as "butt joints". The manufacture can select by when the joint to be fully radiograph (E = 1), spot (E = 0.85) or not examined (E = 0.70) – see ASME Section VIII Div. 1 para UW-12. It's to ensure that welding is properly perform without any defect that can causing leak or explode as the extreme effect while operate with high pressure. Of course the allowable design pressure shall be considered for any kind design of pressure vessel. Please have time to visit ASME Section VIII Div. 1 for further detail. Enjoy your hot coffee....
