what speed should i take to weld with 4.0mm and 5.0mm E6013 electrode?

can i have the speed range that would work for defect free high productivity welding

suggest current along with speed

Your speed is limited by the deposition rate of the alloy,ie; the amount of time it takes the filler material to fuse and wet into the parent material. 6013 is a fast-freeze electrode meant for lower amperages and speeds. You are asking for trouble if you try to speed it up too much. What I have seen typically is excessive undercut and slag pockets at the edges of the bead.

A better course of action would be to use a straight iron powder flux electrode like 7014, which in 4mm runs very nicely at about 165 amps, AC or DC. It will support relatively wide beads, or fairly fast stringer beads. In 5mm, your amperage will need to increase to about 190 amps. This alloy works best flat to 45 degrees down.

Fastest that I have ever seen in stick is 7024, AKA Jet Rod. In 4mm, plan on 180+ amps and in 5mm 225 amps would be a good place to start. This is a FAST electrode. Don't even think about welding in any position besides flat!

Speed has its trade-offs. These alloys are not fast freeze types and therefore do not work well out of position. Heat input into the material can be immense. However, if properly done they produce very nice, defect-free welds.

Oh yes, one last thing about these two alloys: you will know that you have your heat correct for the bead profile you want when the slag lifts itself from the bead.

E 7014 (heavy coated) with 110 % dep. efficiency could be used at 150-200 amps for 4.00 mm size & at 200-250 amps for 5.00 mm size. E 7024 ( super heavy coated) with 140 % dep. efficiency could be used at 200-240 amps for 4.00 mm size & at 250-290 amps for 5.00 mm size. We also get E 7024 ( With extra Super Heavy Coating) with 210 % dep. efficiency could be used at 220-260 amps for 4.00 mm size & at 250-320 amps for 5.00 mm size. They are good for heavy build up, welding thick plates, ship building, heavy machinery parts. E 6013 ( medium heavy coated) with average 60 - 70 % dep. efficiency could be used at 140-190 amps for 4.00 mm size & at 180-250 amps for 5.00 mm size. Good for sheet metal works ( with lower size) , steel structures etc, with 4 & 5.00 mm sizes. But in all the above cases and irrespective of current used , the average welding travel speed is in between 8" to 12 " ( 20 to 30 cm/ min) and may go up to 14" ( 35 cm) in flat position welding. It may vary bit, depending the position of welding like flat, horizontal and vertical up for E 6013 & E 7014 type. But E7024 is recommended for flat butt, fillets and horizontal Fillets only.
