Sources for Old Manuals?

05/14/2009 11:10 AM

Does anyone know of a good source for old manuals? In my case I have a 1000gph homogenizer bought used with a lot of equipment. (specifically, it is a Manton-Gaulin 1000E). It was used in the Dairy industry.

I have googled quite a bit and so far had no results.

Thanks in advance for your help.

There are a number of used book dealers on the web who may be able to help as well as eBay if the manufacturer is no longer in business.

Hello AnhydrousBob,

I have tried searching and got back a whole lot of lists of equipment from:

http://www.schiercompany.com/Homogenizer.html

Sales@schiercompany.com

Have you tried this company? If not I will write to them.

Can you tell me if you want an Instruction Manual or Technical Parts Manual?

Are you going to use this item or are you selling it on?

Hello AnhydrousBob,

here is some Manual sites. Though some sites deal in certain 'types' of manual. And some site you have to join before you can get any useful info'.

Thanks bb,

I'll check out those sites. I'm basically looking for an owners manual so I'll know how to operate the homogenizer - other than just throwing the switch!

What type of oil, rated speeds, how to disassemble for cleaning. There is nothing that is tricky about it (it was designed in the 50's), but I've learned the hard way that assuming things sometimes leads to unwanted outcomes.

Hello AnhydrousBob, I got a reply from "SchierCo", see below.

It may pay you to get back to them as I have replied explaining we are members of an Engineering site and it is you that is after the Manual.

It may be that the Manual runs into several hundred pages? In which case you could perhaps ask if you could ask for copies of particular subject pages as and when you need them?

I have to say I think the $100.00 is a bit steep!

I have still not come across the original Makers site yet. Perhaps they are out of business now, do you know?

Take care................bb manualMonday, 18 May, 2009 9:32 PM From: "SchierCo" <sales@schiercompany.com>Add sender to Contacts Hello BB, We can get you a photocopy of the Manton Gaulin 1000E homogenizer mechanical manual for $100.00. Anything additional that I can help you with? Thanks Jenny Schier Co

Hey bb,

You got a better response than I did. They only sent me a link to another site (which is still a good response in my book).

I finally found a company that apparently bought the line of equipment. I have not contacted them, yet, had several things happen all at once to keep me occupied (that's why I'm so late in replying to you, too).

I really appreciate all the help.

Hello AnhydrousBob,

Please do not apologize for being busy! LOL!

When you get time let me know how you are getting on please, OK?

I have not been able to get a full and proper connection with my ISP for several weeks and months, so am having to try and recall what I was last talking about on some threads.

That was the case with this thread. Did SchierCo buy the original Homogenizing company?

To some extent, where you live can have some importance on whether you may find it 'worth' joining and or paying for either single specific pages, or, part or whole of a manual. I cannot join and pay for info', but there is not that many sites around that do this. With 'Homogenizing machines being a little 'off the wall' compared to say TV, mobile phone, and fridge instructions?

I may have listed it already, but if not here it is again. www.fixya.com. They seem to do a whole lot of books etc, but you will need to join before you can make full use of the site.

I wish you luck, and please keep in touch and let me know what happens, as it may be, as often happens, another Homogenizer makers products are being sought, or info on them? It always seems to run that an unusual request is followed by another similar question, and so this may well help.

Take care....................bb

Send us an e-mail at http://www.dairyeng.com We're still dealing in parts & service for even the old 1950's machines -- although you are pushing it a bit. You'll find our list of homogenizers (and e-mail link) at http://www.dairyeng.com/homogenizerdetail.asp

Hey BB,

I finally got in touch with a company that talked me though the website to the correct manuals - they are not easily discerned by the model number. Anyway, thanks for the help. And by the way, I discovered that this homogenizer was built about 1950. And it is still in great shape - of course I know that it spent about 20 years sitting in storage.
