Caps are not nice. It means you are shouting!!

I'd think a pipewelderforlife would know how many passes a 6" schedule 80 HP pipe should require.

Ask one of your more experienced welding buddies.

Or, go here :

National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau

Of course, since we don't know where you are, this may not help

ACCORDINGLY ,I DO KNOW HOW MANY WELDS IT TAKES TO FILL A 6" SCHEDULE 8O HP STEAM PIPE. AND YES, I AM A PIPEWELDERFORLIFE. AND YES, I DO CARRY CURRENT RADIOGRAPH CERTIFICATIONS, AS WELL AS A LETTER OF CONTINUITY THROUGH THE LOCAL PIPEFITTERS UNION. I DO HOWEVER, ADMIT THAT I HAVE ONLY BEEN WELDING PIPE FOR 5 YEARS, BUT ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITY ALONG WITH LUCRATIVE WAGES AND A SPECTACULAR PENSION AND JOB SECURITY-CONTINUE TO POUR IN FLOURISHING WITH PRAISE-SO YES SMART ASS, I DO KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. SO IF YOU WANT, COME TO LIMA, OHIO AND I'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE A WELD SCREAM! I AM IN THIS FOR THE FORTUNE AND THE FAME... CAPS,STRINGER FINISHES, MY WELDS ALL SING IN ARTISTIC GLORY. BACK-OFF ZIN GURU-I LOVE WHAT I DO!

Yea. I tried to book a vacation to Lima' Ohio. The kids just couldn't wait. Unfortunately all of the turist attractions were already booked solid, The luxury hotels were full and the airlines were filled. It was a long battle, but we had to settle for Orlando area. Poor kids. They were sooo bored. They will hate me forever.

"HOW MANY WELD PASSES ARE REQUIRED FOR 6" SCHEDULE 80 HIGH PRESSURE PIPE?"

Just enough to not leak.

Men make more passes at girls without glasses.

With slight differences depending on material (mild steel, CrMo, ...), positioning, electrode, amperage, root (tig, stick, .....), ..........

From AWS D10.12: Guide for Welding Mild Steel Pipe

http://www.techstreet.com/cgi-bin/detail?product_id=728277

You should be looking at 5 to 7 passes.
