AC Servo vs. 3-Phase Induction Motor

05/15/2009 3:40 AM

I like to Know about a 3 phase servo motor and how its different from a 3 phase induction motor, I know a servo motor have low inertia and having high precision in its motion what make it like this. and likes to know about its construction of rotor, stator and also about various encoders used in it

Why not google it, there was many hits for me. Several hundred in fact......

I personally have never worked with 3 phase servo motors, so other than that, I am no help.....

I would always Google nmy question before asking here......Here is for when you get no hits with Google I feel.......and its much faster (instant?).....

There are quite a few servo configurations but the basic one you are referring to has a stator wound very similar to 3 Phase motor in a delta configuration. The rotor is a two pole assembly. In use the rotor is supplied with a DC voltage and the stator with AC voltage at a common frequency of 400Hz.[ there are many configurations and voltages depending on its designed usage]

In the above it would be used as a position indicator if two of these servos were connected together electrically , if one was moved the other would follow its position exactly. The phase displacement signal can be amplified and sent to larger drive motors which can be used to position equipment which the servos track until the displacement signal is nulled.

These servos could be classed as an analog version of a digital positioning system and have been around for many years they fell out of favor some what when digital encoders came along but are now coming back in to use with clever software and cheap computing power. The actual positions of reference are as many as you can detect in 360 degrees where as a stepper motor has just so many positions it can move to in 360 degrees.

Hi Sir

Thanks for your information. Sir I would like to know more about a 3 phase servo motor can you please help me because I try to find notes about it on net but I didn't get, if you have any notes about servo motor can you please send me.

Regards

JK
