Automating My Use of the Internet

05/15/2009 4:31 AM

Hi All,

I am doing a job which requires lot of netbanking and use of other internet stuff using various websites. Its a routine task hence I wanted to automate it. But problem is I dont know how to automate part where I chose something from drop-down menus, Enter username and password, select something from text boxes etc..

So please help me in deciding which technology I should choose so that developement time and rigour would be minimum (e.g. .NET, java...)? and way to achieve my target. I wanted to keep my username and password in database instead of hardcoding it. It will give more security and flexibility.

Thanks in advance.

My advice is NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, automate any financial transactions occurring over the Internet. That is only inviting trouble. It would be too easy to hijack the process, and all of the money is gone before you even know something is amiss.

Check out Roboform, it will fill out fields in Internet Explorer. I tried it for a while, but didn't feel it was worth buying, besides, if I let it do it for me, I will forget! I think it helps my aging brain to have to remember all those usernames and passwords .

Visual Basic could do the job, as well as any web scripting language probably.

Thanks Chris,

Now I can start looking for more information about visual basic web scripting. Actually I know Visual Basic but unfortunately do not have any experience in web scripting. Can you please point me to some useful resourses other than you already provided ? .

This site has tons of very useful tested code.. Its my personal favorite. (this is not the top level of the site)

other than than that I have relied on books I was able to purchase, or simple google searches for specific tasks you need to accomplish

Chris.
