Does Anyone Supply the Switches Used by Disabled People?

05/21/2009 5:58 AM

Does anyone can supply the Switches are used by disabled people suffering from Cerebral Palsy ??

Greetings my name is Amelia from CN Mould & Plastic Limited , one of my Indian friends said on http://switches.in/tact-switch.html , the TACT SWITCH : 12 * 12 TYPE 60-3000 , is something he is looking for .

I want a switch which is a tact switch but which is a four way swtich
like a joy stick but smaller... However the cost of making moulds for such switches is very high. The switch is sold at $45 a switch…..i want to build something similar but at the cost of $1 per switch. These switches are used by disabled people suffering from Cerebral Palsy, so I want to keep the cost of the switches very low, especially so that I can make it affordable here in India.

Actually, the biggest challenge we are facing right now is that the institutes that need such switches don't order in bulk. So we can at the most stock not more than 500 pieces……. I understand that the mould cost is high, but that's exactly the problem I am trying to address.

Could anybody help him ? You see , share 500 pieces of switches in $1 per is not a big deal to you , but can help others who really needs them , or we may help , we make the mold for your company ,. and if the quality is more than 500,000 pieces , the mold fee will turn back , incluing these $500 switches' fee .

Anyone interested please feel free to contact me .

I have a friend who is a quadriplegic. All his lighting is on motion sensors, the rest are voice activated. The appliances he should NOT turn on are used by his assistant.

Hope this helps.

We had some posts from gfought who is involved in wheelchair design. Haven't seen any posts for a while but it might be worth a private message asking for help.

These look a lot like switches found in amany consumer products. You should be able to remove them from non-functional electronics at a very minimum cost.

Also check the electronic suplus websites for these or similar items.

Good Luck,

The switches shown in the hot link that you supplied are available and are not costing $45 each. If you want specific supplier details, then send me a personal mail and I'll send you the distributors details.

If you cannot source same in India, then they are able to be sent from Australia. Wholesale cost on 500,000 per year is less than $1.00 (that's Aus dollars in 2009, so a little cheaper than US$.)

This link http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/components/pdf/028_es151_evqp1_b_d_f_k_dne.pdf

gives a link to a very similar part with similar power ratings and reliability.

That supplier has multiple distributors around the world and has product options similar to the brand and style that you have nominated as your "target" product.

Contact your local agent for assistance in selection of what you specifically desire.

Hope that helps you.

Now for my own interest. The part you have nominated is a small tactile switch. Are you going to incorporate this into another product for use by your customers?

Both switches "TYPE 60-3000" and the Panasonic do not give you "direction selection". If you are after a switch to provide multiple direction control, then you will need something different (or a combination of these switches under a joystick)

Directional control could be obtained by using a slightly modified switch that we do manufacture that is used for adjustment of electronic controlled mirrors on a motor car.
