do you really need to calculate?

How about using one of the weight charts provided, for example:

http://www.jimssupply.com/angle.htm

Because it would be difficult to get really accurate by calculating due to filleted/sloped edges - they are not all simply straight/flat edges.

What is the width and height you have taken?

What are unit, can you put you sample example?

Grap yourself a good rescource such as a Ryerson Tull book. Then look up your material... It will have a "per foot" weight.. multiply your total length in feet with the weight per foot of desired material.

order yours today!

or use the online version!

Bear in mind that you're dealing with an analog quantity here. There is no exact result that can be measured - you'll have to put a tolerance on it.

Variables to consider:

How accurately can you measure L, W & H ?

How consistent are the W & H along the L axis?

Does the value you're using for density correspond exactly to the alloy you have?

Are there any fillets at the angles between the webs? Are all the edges sharp?

Is your weighing machine calibrated?

Hi...

If you are in India use the standard SP-6 published by Bureau of Indian standards for rolled sections. Officially they have fixed density of steel as 7.85 gms/cm2.

Some other places to look, if they are available to you:

ASTM specification A6, the appendix will have weights listed.

The first section of any edition of an AISC Manual of Steel Construction.

Or, try this equation in place of the one in your original post, which won't account for the fillets and such as mentioned by another reply above:

(L + W) x H x density

where:

L, W are lengths of the angle legs

H is the thickness of the angle legs

There is no standared formula for calculating weight of structural member for that you have to see standared table. If you wants table please send your mail id. i will send you tables.
