De-Sulfurized Kerosene

05/28/2009 1:06 AM

Low quality kerosene with 250 ppm sulfur contents has to be de-sulfurized in order to remove odor to 5 ppm. Please clarify if this is achieved by treating kero with sulfuric acid...or else prescribe me a process to follow.....After de-sulfurizing of Kero, it has also to be de-aromatised which may be simple distillation i.e., a combination of evaporation and condensation.... Please clarify if such a process is followed.... Please help me out in designing such a system and if someone has already designed a system alike please share the details with me...

Process engineering usually starts with the process chemist's description of the reactions to be used, their heat changes, etc. It is this document that must be used as a basis for scale-up. It is unlikely that a description will be found on the internet or in an open forum as these things have commercial sensitivity; if it was easy then everyone would be doing it, thereby diluting market share.
