Believe me, you DON'T want to know what that means . However, please understand Mikerho's reaction . We often get people posting messages in abbreviations that can mean just about anything, and yet at the same time they expect us to know what they want and to answer them accordingly . I'm sure it wouldn't hurt you to spell out non-destructive testing and Georgia in full now, would it ? And at the same time, it would avoid all this unnecessary unpleasantness .

"Best" and "cheapest" are usually mutually exclusive.

Obviously Mikerho is rude and crude. Please overlook his offensive comment. A simple google of NDT testing provides ample information to avoid such a comment. NDT is non-destructive testing and wanting to find good affordable training in GA (Georgia) is certainly understandable.

Find out around, ensure the certificate you get is recognised by the ASNT. I don't know over there, here we have a number of persons with certificates that are not recognised by the ASNT (or ISNT - our local society here).

Of course that is a story we come across often (at the time of vendor evaluation , the ISO9001 certification body, metrology calibration agency,... the list is endless from where they get themself certified, the certifier himself being uncertified)

Without the recognition getting a paper may be just that you have a paper.

Try your local community college. They may have night school courses.

Re: NDT Training

The main thing when getting NDT Nondestructive training is to ensure that it will be applicable to the code that you are working with. A sure fire way to make sure you cover many codes is ensuring that the instructor is an ASNT Level III and that the training certificate you receive states the number of contact classroom hours.

Some codes state that you have to have 10 years Level II, be a Level III or have a degree to perform training. Others do not set a requirement and your office secretary with no NDT experience can be the teacher. Be careful with companies that are loose about who they call an instructor, it can bite you in the butt with a good auditor. Also be contentious of companies that use office secretaries then have an ASNT Level III sign off the certificate. This is an obvious sign that you are dealing with an unethical company out for your dollar.

Aqualified.com uses Level III's certified to SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410 or that are ASNT Certified Level III's depending on the code. If your ambitions are general in nature the instructor is usually an ASNT Level III to cover many national and international codes.

The down side of using Aqualified as an individual is that they primarily teach corporations. If you want you can be put on a waiting list for future classes and if the corporation which is being taught allows outsiders they will contact you and let you in, unfortunately they do not cater to individuals. In 2009 their price is $ 100/hr per contact class hour.

Before you pay for training on your own, you should try to have a company that wants to use you in that capacity pay for it. NDT Training is usually useless unless you have OJT on the job training hours.

In conclusion for a free look at NDT training you may go to.

Aqualified when you click on the link below you will notice the links on the left. These are all quick tutorials on each of the methods. For a more complete tutorial visit the bottom link www.ndt-ed.org.

I really quite appreciate your detailed explanation of this process. I have contacted both ATS and Aqualified and am evaluating their conditions to check which one is more suitable to me. Thanks once again.
