Conversion of synthetic gas volume to weight

Dear colleagues,

Iy is known the ultimate analysis of synthetic gas per vol% percentage. ie.

H2:31%

CO:48%

CH4:21%

It is requested the conversion per weight % percentage

Can you provide the methodology?

M=PV/RT. FOR HYDROGEN IT IS=ATM. PRESSURE*0.31/R*ATM. TEMP. SIMILARLY FOR OTHER GASES , WE CAN CALCULATE WEIGHT OF GIVEN VOLUME AND THEN CONVERT IT TO PERCENTAGE.

But since pressure and temperature remains the same for all gas components, through idea gas equation we end-up the same percentage.

At the end the Mass of H2% is estimated MH2%= 2*VH2% /(2*VH2%+18*VCO2+16*VCH4)

Where 2,18,16 Molecular Weights

Hello gvallios

Your equation is nearly there. It should be

MH2%= 2*VH2% /(2*VH2%+28*VCO%+16*VCH4%) Mol. wt. of CO = 28, not 18.

Just need to repeat for the CO and CH4. You seem to have managed OK, what's the problem?
