Datasheet for Shutdown Valve (SDV)

06/01/2009 5:26 AM

Dear all!

Does any one have a sample of SDV datasheet for reference for me, i'm really appreciate if someone could help to send me through my email: hoanjun@yahoo.com

What i'm concerning about the datasheet of SDV is a there is contractor of our company bought an SDV for our metering skid. On its datasheet, actuator part it's written: Normal Close (in Open/Close situation), and FC (in failure position). My opinion is in Open/Close situation in datasheet, it's must be Normal Open, and ofcourse FC in failure position.

Hope that i could receive your advice and help on this.

Thank you and best regards

Hi there,

For data sheet specification forms - www.isa.org You will have to join them though to get the specification forms.

Most companys hold the data sheets (specification forms) as intellectual/company property - so I doubt very much whether any one is going to send you one.

What they are refering to in the data sheet is a de-energised state, not the operating state.

Regards,

Craig

Dear Craig!

Tks for your input. The fact is there is argument between the contractor and Certifying Authority (CA) for my company's gas pipeline. The contractor bough SDV and submit datasheet to CA with Open/Close situation is Normal Close, and Failue case is FC (fail close). Their explaination is Normal Close is the situation when they bough SDV (de-energised state), but when in operation state, it will be Open. But according to CA, they commented that it should be written as Normal Open. I'm from the Owner, just want to know which one is right.

Hope to receive your value input again. Thank you very much.

Howard

Hi there,

We always specify the de-energised, failure state of the valve and it's auxillarys. This is done in accordance with our local governing body SANS, which is the IEC equivalent here in SA.

If you have access to the ISA standards - they will tell you the same thing for data sheets. You need to specify whether the mechanisim (spring) acts to open the valve or close it. This boils down to stating the failure/de-energised state.

I have never seen a case where the operating position is stated on a data sheet. In my opinion it would be very confusing and could lead to big mistakes being made.

Have a look at electrical schematics or control schematics - we always show the de-energised/failure state.

Kind regards,

Craig
