Stainless Steel Punching and Powder Formation

11/29/2006 5:57 AM

Dear frineds ,

We are using carbide Punch and die for Punching hole and slots in a Stainless steel strips in transfer die Press which runs at 230 SPM.

Now I observe an accumulation of blackish powder around the punch and die surface. Now this is leading to ,low life of punches since this powder is not cleared in each stroke and literally sticks around the punch area.

can anyone give some feedback on this , what is the reason for balckish powder formation.

Regards

Shesh

What lubricant/coolant is being used while punching? the powder forming is wear debris from the punching operation due to poor lubrication. as per the thickness of sheet punched & the tolerence between die and punch, and cleaning procedure after punching, the lubricant should be chosen. Lashkari
