New Physics of Light. SLAC Stanford

06/06/2009 2:03 PM

I hadn't taught Physics for decades, in fact not since leaving Jorrie-Land, as English schools had foresaken experimental Physics in the meantime, along with the teaching of English grammar.

So it was I decided to brush up on particle physics to see how it squared with my Grand Universal Theory or Mygut. This involves the Real Aether as opposed to the Michelson - Morley Ether and a lot of the mis-interpretations that followed from this.

There are also Really Fundamental Particles and RRFP's.

So I go to www2.slac.stanford.edu/vvc/theory/.... to check out colo(u)r charge.

where you can see that....the reason for the name 'color' - mixing three primary colours of PAINT to give white.

Now I can look at my oil paintings in a new light.

I couldn't tell exactly what part of SLAC's website you are referring to. Could you provide a specific link?

Thanks for your response. It's in the virtual visitor centre and I pulled it out by gooogling color charge.

I guess I was just shocked that a fundamental erroneous statement should have been allowed into what I presumed was from a top scientific establishment, and further, what did it say about the veracity of the rest .

It also highlights how top level scientists and methematicians will use English words that then acquire a completely different meaning to the common useage, and in so doing will cause obfuscation. I'm thinking here of a word like dimension , which is, when you think about it, a special case of other 'parameters' or 'powers' which in real life is limited to the three dimensions of Euclidian space.

Ah yes, the easy to confuse difference between pigments and light. Add a layer of hyper-education with a heavy base of bureaucracy and you get paint mixing to produce white light. I wish anyone luck getting SLAC to correct it.

I worked with a brilliant physicist several years ago who refused to recognize the fundamental difference between pigment and light. He insisted that color monitors at the time were incapable of producing a true white light. (Technically quite true but not my point here.) He claimed that this was why his manually color adjusted pictures on his computer screen never printed the same color rendition he desired. After I foolishly giggled at his comment, he demonstrated the problem by displaying on his monitor a picture he had already printed. He then placed the print over appropriate parts of the monitor image to show me the differences in color. I briefly attempted to explain what I felt was a fundamental misunderstanding of pigments, color mixing and human perceptions of light by first turning off the lights in the room and asking if the light from the monitor and print appeared to change to his eye. I then shined direct sunlight on the monitor and print and again asked if he noticed a difference. The look he gave me clearly said the point of my demonstration was not registering in his mind. I dropped the discussion.

Great post! I am a college sophomore with a dual major in Physics and Mathematics @ University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. By the way, i came across these excellent<a href="http://www.funnelbrain.com/searchResults.php?searchTxt=physics&decks=true" rel="dofollow">physics flashcards</a>. Its also a great initiative by the FunnelBrain team. Amazing!!!
