Fracture Toughness

06/08/2009 8:08 AM

I am using this equation to calculate fracture toughness with unit MPa*m^0.5: KIC=0.016*(E/H)^0.5 * (P/c^3/2).

I data for this formula: E - 92 GPa, H - 5.708 GPa, P - 200 gram, c - 27.5 mkm.

What will be KIC? Thank you for your help.

Could you please give what is around the formula you use since I have the feeling some thing is wrong.

I shall explain after seeing the input around.

I've jus gotten this equation from the published paper. There are several ways of calculation of fracture toughness. The authors gave directly this formula without above-mentioned equations. The simplest one is I have given here. Many people use this equation to calculate FT. I think the main problem is to get final unit MPa*m^0.5.

Can you make a scan of the page and put it on the thread or indicate the source since I do not see the reason for the P=200 grams! May be I am wrong but...
