Hi , boss Positioners and smart positioners doesn't have much difference, smart are those devices those can auto fit there data in the required conditions so as to get the optimum control function.Positioners are only used on those processes where relative control loop/scheme is slow, so as to get the stem position on the remote control room and to watch it.But now a days smart positioners are now replaced by Electroneumatic positioners, which consists of DC Torque motor, pneumatic relays nozzle -flapper assembly and provides dc i/p to pressure o/p so as to move the position of the positioner. hope u get the required answer, and consult with the other books, this is from fischer control-control valve. SANCHAYAN.
