Refurbished Axis Guides

06/10/2009 1:46 AM

Refurbishing Axis guides

We have 100 mm x 200 mm x,y axis table. Axis is mounted with magnetic linear motor and glass scale. Accuracy of the axis are 0.5 micron for the entire travel range.

Axis guide are not separately mounted on the body of each axis. We are using the axis to cut diamond. Now, after several years of usage the guide having pitting on it and it obstracts the smooth movement of axis.

Is there any solution to remove pitting? If we grind it, the accuracy level will be disturbed .Also we will not be able to have matching rollers.

Then how to fill the pitting which is hardly 1 mm deep?

Please guide me.

Dear Mr. Bhatt,

It is possible to apply a nano coating on the guide to generate smooth motion. This is done without dismantling the equipment.

Please contact their Pune representative E-mail address- dsnconsulting@gmail.com

Thanks and Regards,

Before you do anything, you should find out why its pitted and take steps to prevent this happening again....

Are the axis guides made in such a way that you can "turn" them around to present a new clean (unpitted) surface?

As stages are used to cut the diamonds, the graphite micron particles generates during process which slowly damages the guide.

We have taken care to extract the dust as much as possible through fume and dust extractor. Also the stages are well cover through bellows and also there is protective cover made of thick cotton.

Good day- Bankim
