12/01/2006 12:07 AM

is there any equipement / gadget / meter that would help one to define the roughness in the pipeline .

is the test nondistructive?

especialy , to be used for the effectiveness of electropolishing?

There are plenty of manufacturers of surface finishing measuring machines...

Most will be able to measure internal as well as external surfaces...

Yes there are many profilometers .

I want to know just one which can measure roughness inside the ss pipes, elbows, welded joints.

this parameter ( roughness inside the pipe and fittings) is immesly important to decide the sutability and the degree of scaling in the pharma and food industry , you will apprciate .

Some manufacturer's are Mititoyo, Rank Taylor Hobson, Feinpruf, Perthan, they all have websites that will tell you their capabilities...

If none do the job you want contact me, my business is designing specialist measuring instruments, however, I'm sure one of the above would do something you need.

There should be some optical insturments that could measure lagg time from one end to the other. The smoother the pipe is less energey would be lost. This is kind a what we do in fiber optics. A microscope is also a good method to examine sample sites.

Pipe roughness tables exist, and you can look up many standard pipes to find their roughness. You may not need to get a measuring tool to do it
