Ratings and Cable Sizes

06/11/2009 7:48 AM

what ratings and cable sizes would you expect these circuits to be:

a lighting circuit

a ring main

a supply to an immersion heater

a supply to a shower

a fused spur

a supply to a cooker

On all of these items the ratings could change due to local codes and circuit load is the determining factor for conductor size which is not given. Example is a dish washer in your home has an immersion heater. May be 20 to 30 amps maybe 120 or 240 on a stand alone unit any of these would change the cable size or type the plug also. Then there is immersion heaters for industrial use. Your items are not defined enough to give a definitive answer.

The supply to a shower is water so no cable is needed just pipe.

Sounds like homework!

This really looks like homework, and is impossible to even answer as the cable size varies with load and supply voltage (which varies from country to country). "a fused spur" and "a ring main" are even more vague.

a supply to a shower

What the heck crazy shower requires power.

<sigh> before this thread is closed, what course are you doing and why didn't you pay attention in class (either in person or online).

It really a homework. It doesn't even tell us how much is the total connected load to each circuit.

That's generally explained in the coursework leading up to the question, as is the answers (or at the very least enough information to obtain the answers without outside help).
