How to start to learn vessel design?

06/12/2009 8:49 PM

I would like to learn vessel design according to ASME BPVC.

I want to get strong basic design experience.

How should I start?

Please give me practical suggestion.

Thank you very much.

Are you currently working in a design capacity? Are you a student? What background, experience do you have? Where are you located?

Depending on how much money you have available

  1. Participate in the Online ASME course or purchase the self-directed CD:
    1. http://catalog.asme.org/Education/OnlineInstructorLeadCourse/BPV_Code_SECTION_VIII_DIV_1.cfm
    2. http://catalog.asme.org/Education/CDROM/Boiler_Pressure_Vessel_Code.cfm
  2. Purchase some books or pdfs:
    1. # http://catalog.asme.org/books/PrintBook/Guidebook_Design_Section_VIII_2.cfm
    2. http://www.casti.ca/
  3. Borrow some books from a library, possibly from a local university or college, some good examples are:
  • "Pressure Vessel Design Handbook" - by Bednar
  • "Process Equipment Design" - by Brownell & Young
  • "Pressure Vessel Design Manual" - by Moss
  • "Pressure Vessel Handbook" - by Megyesy
  • "Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment" by Jawad and Farr;
  • "Mechanical Design of Process Systems - Vol 1" by Escoe;
