Reducing Tee

06/17/2009 5:01 AM

For spec1……

SS Safety shower & Drinking water, T (max) = 40C, Pr (max) = 800kPag, CA= Nil, Hyd Pr= 949kPag

For spec2……

CS Liquor Piping, T (max) = 150C, Pr (max) = 1610kPag, CA= 1.5mm, Hyd Pr= 2566kPag

-We are using Flanged Reducing Tee (for 50x40, 80x40) in case of Spec1 but SW or BW Reducing Tee in case of Spec2?

Pl. give correct statement with logic behind.

Thanks

Spec 1: 800kpag = 114lb/sq.in. Any reducing tee rated for that pressure at 40degC would do, Boss, so long as it is compatible with the piping materials on all three branches. If it were to be flanged, refer to flange tables for flange sizes, bolting and pressure ratings, as these can sometimes vary with diameter and pressure.

Spec 2: there is an undefined abbreviation. CS could mean Carbon Steel or it could mean Caustic Soda, for which carbon steel pipe is suitable. Shall we assume that SW means socket weld and BW means butt weld, Boss? Flanges can be found that go to 230lb/sq.in if welding is considered unsuitable. It's still a "look-it-up-in-published-tables" sort of job though.

The thinking could possibly be that the water piping can tolerate the risk/consequence of leaking flanges, where the liquor piping needs to be as liquid tight as possible with minimal risk of leaking.

Can you not ask the persons who wrote or gave you those specifications?
