What's the Generic Name for This Machine?

06/17/2009 1:37 PM

Please take a look at this site:

Dragogranel

Is there a generic name for this machine? Do you know of any other company that manufactures it?

This one model works as a belt conveyor, but there are others that consist of inclined bucket elevators or screw conveyors.

ha - ha - ha, very funny (insert sarcasm smiley here)

I was asking for the name of this kind of articulated inclined conveyor. One of two, I am missing my guesses at the name or the Brazilian manufacturer is the only company making it.

I wasn't being clever - it's a grain elevator. I've see them all over west Texas.

In South America a grain elevator is usually supposed to be a bucket elevator. A conveyor like the one you show would be called just "screw conveyor" or something like that.

Sorry I thought you were making fun of me.

Yep, that is the company of the link I posted.

They used to sell to anyone but now they have an exclusive distributor in my country. I am looking for another supplier.

I sympathize, but I've never seen an articulated one like that.

I can only suggest our hosts

Generically it *should* be an articulated dry bulk material conveyor?

In Australian bulk grain handling there is a similar system. The one that you have shown would typically be used for "recovery" from a bulk stack where the portion shown in your first pic is picking up from the level floor and the other end is able to dump into bulk transport trucks for removal.

The machine used to build the stack used to be called a "lob-star" around 10 years ago, but may have changed brands since then.

try http://www.grainfarmer.com/swift-grain-gobler.html

And there are hundreds more links when "Googled".

Similar equipment is used in fertilizer, sugar and other bulk solids recovery from silo floors. You might even fond cross links if you look at "sweeps" (screw augers with open portions also used to recover grain but deserve significant care and respect when being used. They WILL remove body parts indiscriminately if you are int he wrong place.)

Hi Just

The "tractor" of this equipment works on the same principle as the gobbler. But instead of delivering straight to the truck it delivers to another conveyor and then this conveyor to another conveyor until it reaches the final point.

It surprises me that a machine so simple isn't manufactured anywhere else.

I know many people in North America use grainvacs for the same work, but the power requirements of grainvacs are absurd (more than 150 HP). Just one machine could force you to increase 50% the power supply to the facility (usually around 300 or 400 HP). Any sort of belt, screw or bucket conveyor is much cheaper.

Generically, I would call it a conveyor. I don't see using all those conveyors over using just one long one. Overall cost would be greater than for just one and if one were to break down, the whole thing would come to a stop. Maintenance would be x times the cost to maintain just one where x = the number of conveyors.

I don't see using all those conveyors over using just one long one.

The reason to use all those conveyors is to provide a flexible path so you can sweep the floor of the entire warehouse while still delivering to only one place. It is very useful when you are emptying a flat storage horizontal silo, which hasn't been provided with a reclaiming tunnel. This happens a lot when you run out of storage capacity and have to temporary (or not so temporary) adapt a finished goods warehouse to store grain, woodchips, sugar or any other bulk solid.

Other possible solutions are a pneumatic conveyor and a flexible auger screw conveyor. The pneumatic conveyor, as I said, is a power sucker. The flexibility of the flexible screw conveyor seems to be limited. Also, I have only seen them for non-abrasive powders. I suspect they won't last long if you try to move sugar or woodchips with them.
