Lifting From a Reservoir

06/23/2009 2:17 AM

We need to lift the cutting oil to 5 feet which stored in a reservoir, the oil density is 870kg/meter3, the hose ID is .276 inch (rubber hose)

The oil is stored in reservoir with the help of the pump. The pump delivers oil at 170mililitre/stroke and at 20 psi pressure.

In 5 strokes we are pushing 850 ml oil inside the reservoir, the total reservoir volume is 1800ml the resevoir bottom is at 1.5 inch height from centre of output from pump. Please inform what is the pressure of oil at outlet of the reservoir.

The resevoir and the pump are close to each other ( 3inch distance) . The pump out put to reservoir input pump pipe diameter is 1".

Does the reservoir have a free surface, i.e. is it vented, or is it a pressure vessel?

I assume that if the reservoir is vented, the pressure at its output equals to the heigh of the oil inside times its density. You asked about the pressure at the reservoir output, correct?
