AutoCAD 2006 Problem

06/25/2009 1:36 AM

Hi all,

Can anyone help me with a problem with AutoCAD 2006. I usually run 2006 mechanical but, after running a regcure type program, mechanical doesn't load and only basic AutoCAD runs.

This means that drawings with mechanical components contained within it aren't displayed and also, the properties box won't load.

I have tried going back to a previous date but this doesn't cure AutoCAD! I'm a bit stuck brothers and I don't want to reinstall the whole thing! Any clues???

If you are running Windows XP go to the start menu; control panel; add/remove programs and select AutoCAD 2006 Change; Reinstall or Repair Autocad2006

Hey Woody

Well done mate! I followed your advice and the link and, with heart in my mouth, waited for the results! It, sort of worked ! I had the original icon that, when clicked, started up my AutoCAD 2006 with the missing properties box, good ho, but the mechanical toolbar was still missing. However, the re-install placed a second icon on my desktop, clicked that and, yes, the system loaded Autocad as an 'out of the box' install!

This is not too bad as I can fiddle with my additional 'lisp' files and sort it out from there!

Many thanks and a big GA from me !

This has been a pleasant surprise! I have AutoCad 2006 on an older laptop; about 18 months ago, I could not open it on the account and desktop that I open all other programs on. I spent about two hours with AutoDesk trying to get it fixed. The only thing they could suggest was to set up an alternate account and desktop to run AutoCad on.

Well, I used your suggestion, and I've got it back! Thanks! GA!

Sorry colleague. I have had such problems before. Only reinstallation solved. Reinstallation of windows and AutoCAD in the case, because it was driven by a win98 and so...

Hi bhrescobar

I'm confused! If it was running on Win 98, it couldn't have been AutoCAD 2006, could it?

I have run AutoCAD for many years, and the Windows 7 beta that I have been using is awesome for many reasons. The biggest plus is in annotation and retaining file structure when defrag or malware software is run.

Solidworks has some great tips on their website on how to maintain lisp functions and boundry information that can be lost in many ways that make you wonder who designed this software black hole.

Ah!! - never mind what he says just reinstall as someone has suggested it already.

I have 2007 version nd noticed that repair doesn't always help - reinstal is the way to go really.

good luck.

Hi Isti

No it isn't really! AutoCAD is pants straight out of the box (which is what I would end up with if I re-install). It takes a long time to nip and tuck the program to function how I need it to! If I can salvage my original setup, I'm way ahead!

Anyway, all is good now. Thanks to all contributors!

Just remember registry repair programs can get you into trouble quicker than anything. The best ones make backups before they start, but you are always at risk. Sometimes the computers will not even start again. You should always do a manual registry backup before doing anything in the registry. More often than not, you'll be glad you did. You always have more to lose than you think you do.

Ask yourself " If my computer just went up in flames, can I load a new one to run exactly like this one? How long will it take? " Think carefully. Don't just think about the data. If you break out in a cold sweat, don't be surprised. Most people do after they're told that's what they have to do.

Regular backups can be a pain, but whats the cost if you don't.
