i want to start gear box design.Tell me the right way to approach it and what are the good books that i should refer.

Practical Gear Design Hand book by Dudley

Machine design by Norton

Machine design by shigley

Gear design by Mitra

Gear design by Choudhary

Machine design by Ballaney

CMTI Design data hand book

plus refer AGMA papers

with regards

There r a number of good books on gear design.

Gear design by Merchant.

Title not coming to mind - by Dudley.

the other references r just as good as given by the other person in reply to yr question. AGMA Standards r also there for various precision categories, likewise u have similar standards by UK.

hope u will find the list to kick off with yr project.
