CAPACITORS TO REDUCE SPIKE

07/04/2009 8:52 AM

I want to prevent my AC units from hitting the spike associated w/ peak electric demand times. Are capacitors readily available for this purpose in the residential application. My units range in size from 1.5 to 3.0 tons.

Do you want to protect against voltage spikes or low voltage conditions (w/ peak electric demand times).

Against voltage spikes, most of the portion of AC (the motor) is already protected being inductive except for the really large ones.

And if is low voltage, no capacitor will be able to help.

"AC" -

  • Air Conditioner?
  • Alternating Current?
