U Stamp

07/08/2009 4:19 PM

Can any body clarify me is we have to do any kind of repairing , such as equipment nozzel flange machining or Welding on that equipment flange having " U " stamp .?

For any repairing from which authority we have to get approval before repairing or can we perform such repairing without any approval for U Stamp equipment.

You need to check with / get approval from your specific pressure equipment authority, that is, a government body, appointed Authorized Inspection Agency, .... from your particular jurisdiction (we can't help you if we don't know where you are).

The ASME 'U' stamp is only for fabricated, new equipment and does not directly apply to repairs alterations. Also, the ASME codes are ONLY law (required) if directed so by your locale/jurisdiction/government.

If anything, you may be required to hold an 'R' (Repair) stamp from the National Board.

Or may be legislated to API 510, or ..................... (we can't tell you without knowing your location!!!)
