Valve Trims

Why do we use valve trim of MONEL in caustic service and valve trim of SS 316 in amine service? ( Although I have seen Trim 8 being used in very high sizes for both services)

Because, "amine" and caustic are different chemicals altogether. Depending on the concentration and temperature of the caustic, 316(L) stainless can be prone to cracking, whereas many nickel alloys (eg. Monel) are not.
