Defrost Control Board

07/12/2009 10:51 AM

Hello! How are you people...?? I am engineer in a Electric maintenance company. One of our clients has a problem with his Air conditioning system. Our technical checked out and they found a break element on the Defrost Control Board. Because of the long time of work we can not recognize the function of that element... Please if is possible can you send a electric scheme & technical scheme or where i can find in net ??

It seems that the element is marked Q1.

The model of the air condition is : Goodman Manufacturing Corporation Houston Texas Serial no 97

Model cpkf36 - 5b.

ALL the best.

Q1 is likely a transistor or similar.

Try contacting Goodman directly. I advise buying a new board off the supplier or a second-hand board off the internet as it is unlikely you will be able to find a schematic of the control board and even less likely you will be able to repair it economically. They should also be able to advise you if there is a replacement board if the old one is obsolete.

Thank you evrybody for your care...........

Is impossible to buy and find here in my country ( ALBANIA ) Defrost Control Board this is why we need to know exactly what is the Q1. If Q1 is likely a transistor or similar what are his characteristics ??? Because we need to replace that otherwise we can not repair...

Please i need the electric scheme of the B1226008P DEFROST CONTROL W/RELAY.

Thank you

All the best

Try here Defrost control board. For the price it would seem easier to just replace than fix.

Try contacting Goodman directly, if anyone has a circuit diagram it will be the original manufacturer.

If Q1 is likely a transistor or similar what are his characteristics ???

Is there no marking at all on the faulty component? We cannot specify characteristics without a part number.

No need to yell (your caps lock is on).

If writing to them isn't working (a response could take a while) then call them directly on the phone and talk with their customer or service support department (that is what they are there for). This must be your next step as they are your best chance of getting the information or a replacement board (they are the supplier after all). Keep trying.

If the component is unreadable we cannot help you.

Can you determine what the transistor was driving?

Remove the burned part and note the transistor connections, apply power to the board and measure the voltage between the collector and emitter pads on the circuit board. That should tell you the type of transistor you had as far as NPN or PNP is concerned. Positive on the Collector wrt emitter would typically mean NPN, especially if the emitter is tied directly to common or ground.

Knowing the operating voltage and package type of the transistor, you should be able to find a transistor which is plenty robust to replace it, but you must first find what caused the original to burn up. What is the collector connected to? Is the emitter connected to ground/common, or something else? Is the transistor used for signal amplification or turning on a relay or something of that nature?

This is a lot like trying to tell someone how to land an airplane over the radio . . .
