Rating of Pipe Fittings

07/16/2009 9:49 AM

What is the Class equivalent rating of pipe fittings in pounds?

What is the relationship btw class ratings and pounds ratings of pipe fittings?

Is pipe fiiting of , say class 1500, the same as a pipe fitting of 1500 lbs?

As far as I know a 3000# fitting is rated to withstand 3000 PSI.

"As far as I know a 3000# fitting is rated to withstand 3000 PSI".

No.

I'd like you to know that there are a lot of people have the same thinking, therefore, please refer to CR4 Thread Pound Rating for flange rating, and CR4 Thread Piping Standards and Fittings for fitting rating .

That is incorrect and it is important not to make that inference. Please refer to the links in Abdel Halim Galala's posting above.

Thank you for the correction... interesting, my fittings supplier uses this rating system... but they machine all their own fittings, so I suppose they can put whatever numbers they wish. In fact I've had a couple manufacturers use the "same number as the rating" system... So I suppose my new question would be "Why?" why wouldn't we make it simple... 150# = 150psi, 1500#=1500psi, 3000#= 3000psi??

At least thats how I order all my fittings, but Its a supplier choice I suppose. Sorry for the Incorrect info (at least I said "as far as I know").

(this is really something I should not have misunderstood, as I work in the Industry. More and More It seems like the Industrial Hydraulics Industry is so removed from the rest, as I always order either 1500#, 3000#, 6000#, or 10,000# fittings, which have the same pressure ratings... but again, this industry always amazes me... we still have no ANSI symbol standards)

And thank you again for the correction

Well, I'm getting hungry. I guess I ought to wipe some egg off my face and make a nice big omelet. Yum.
